The race is taking place on September 14, in honor of Usher Syndrome Awareness Day on September 21st, which is in honor of the Equinox. This is done because the Equinox represents a time of going into darkness, which is what the life of someone with Usher syndrome is like. We are going into a time of more darkness as we progressively lose more vision. This race is taking place before the Clash With the Titans cross country meet my school and team host.
This is the second year this race is being put on, last year was an amazing success and I'm super excited to put it on again. We raised almost 7,000 dollars which was way beyond the goal we had set, 500 dollars. This year our goal is 5,000 dollars and to get there will take a lot more but i believe with the support of everyone we can meet it.
It will be a 2.5 mile race at the beginning of the XC meet. It starts at 8 am, so the best time to get there is 7:30 am to make sure you have time to park and get everything. For safety reasons, every person who runs has to sign a waiver, if you are younger than 18 a parent has to fill it out.
