Description
On August the 12th, we are holding our 3rd annual SW VA 811 Run to help raise awareness of the risk you take every time you dig (excavate) without calling 811 first. 811 is the national Call Before You Dig number, created to help protect individuals from hitting underground utility lines while digging. Whether you are a homeowner or a professional excavator, calling 811 before you dig will get your underground utility lines marked at no cost. We want everyone in Virginia to take CARE - Call 811 before digging, Allow required time, Respect the markings, Excavate carefully. By holding the first Annual SWVA 811 Run, Virginia is joining other states like Minnesota, North Carolina, Mississippi and Kansas in the national push to spread the safety message of 811.

Please join us at the Christiansburg Recreation Center (1600 N Franklin St, Christiansburg) for either an 8 mile run or a 5K run/walk. Both courses will provide participants with beautiful scenery. There will be music and we will have the grill fired up to feed all the tired and hungry participants. There will be give-a-ways and educational material available to help encourage everyone to Call 811 Before Digging.

All proceeds from this event will be donated to the Christiansburg Volunteer Fire Department because the Fire Department is the first responder if anyone hits a gas line while digging. Members of the department will be on hand to help spread the safety message.
