Roanoke County Public Schools Education Foundation, a 501©3 non-profit organization, is presenting the 4th Annual Backpack 5K Run/Walk. NEW THIS YEAR! We're also offering a 2.5K run/walk for kids and kids at heart! The 2.5 K is one lap of the same course for the 5K. Proceeds will be used to provide scholarships for graduating seniors and grants for teachers. Several sponsorship levels are available! Runners can also take the Backpack Challenge – purchase a new backpack, fill with school supplies, and drop it off after the race! (Optional Event)
The course for the 2017 Backpack Run incorporates the Roanoke River Greenway. Runners will start on the roadway by the baseball fields. Runners will follow the roadway back to the main entrance to Green Hill Park. Runners then turn left onto the Roanoke River Greenway and follow the paved path back to the baseball fields. A water station is located in the middle of the course serving runners both on the roadway and greenway. 2.5K runners will do a single lap. 5K runners will do two laps. Both races will finish in the cul-de-sac by the parking area.
